Job and self, and other stuff.

Thinking about touching on a lot of topics in this post really, as I've had a lot on my mind lately. It'll probably be pretty jarbled as such but I'll get over it somehow.

First off, a pressing topic, my job. I've been an indefinite temp for a while now. I really, really love my job. I enjoy going there every day even when the shit hits the fan, and it often does. As far as I can tell my boss loves me and would love to keep me, as other people in the department seem to as well. That being said since it's with the state there's a lot of red tape involved in creating a position and the NC state budget situation is currently pretty damn dismal. We're not just talking cuts here, there isn't even a budget yet and the financial year's already started! This makes me worry a lot, just as much as the prior stuff makes me feel like things'll work out well. Leaving me in a rather indifferent state. I'm still on the lookout for other prospects, but I'm also hoping to stay where I am right now.

In a drastically different topic, body modifications. As people may recall in the mists of time I had my tongue pierced. I enjoyed that but I got tired of it and worried a bit about irritation on the gums so out it went. Many years later I made a plunge I'd mulled over for ages and got pierced downstairs. I also got the nipples done some time later. The PA eventually came out, it never quite settled right. I want to get it redone in the future for sure though. My nipples are doing pretty well these days, I recently switched from bars to circular barbels and I can really see the right nipple is perfect, though the left could be better. I already knew it was a little deeper but now with rings I can see that it's a little off crooked too. Very disappointing. I may get it redone sometime but I don't wanna worry too much as of now. It still looks good, but could be better for sure. I also even more recently got my ears pierced. 10 gauge rings for now, and not planning to stretch past that. I wanted some heft and thickness but not gaping holes. Plugs can look hot but I don't think they're for me. Once those are healed I'm thinking about finally getting my double helix armband for a tattoo. I think it'll look great.

On the topic of food. I got out of the habit of bringing my lunch to work, and big surprise I also got out of the habit of losing weight. I've gone back to bringing my lunch with me. I've gotten a bit better at preparing tofu it seems if Dan's to be trusted. I've also branched out a bit more on what I bring. I prepared some onion dip tomorrow easily by tossing soft tofu and onion soup mix into a blender. Looking forward to that! I'm not really a health nut and certainly not a vegetarian. (Though I am a little hypocritical as I don't think I could kill for food if I had to do it myself.) I just happen to gravitate towards healthier food options purely out of taste and because I'm not fond of handling raw meat myself at all. As long as the food's good, I'm happy.

And on yet another drastically different topic, our DnD group met yesterday and I had a blast. My players seemed to have a good time as well. It's great to see a story taking shape and I always enjoy it when they try things I never expected. Even more so when it works. Whether it's singing your way inside an orc fortress or taking up mountaineering instead of planned dungeon crawling. I'm really pleased with all of my players. I'm also gonna start running that Innocents game online soon I hope. A good chunk of my DnD group will be in it and at least one friend on here. Should be exciting and different. I enjoy the combat in DnD 4e a LOT but there's also a LOT of it. I'm looking for something that's more RP heavy!

Things have also been great with Dan. He's adorable and sweet. He seems to care about and respect me. There are some things that have me concerned every now and then but over all I'm extremely happy with the relationship and looking forward to where it's taking us.

And best of all, I'm feeling great about myself. Some of this may seem extremely trivial, piercings and games and whatnot. But I'm enjoying my life a great deal right now and feeling great more often than not. My outlook on life's been colored a rosey tint and it's quite pleasant. I love my life, my friends, my boyfriend, and myself. That has me feeling happy. What's more, I feel like more and more I'm becoming who I want to be. I like that

Player call for an online RPG

So I've been mullinig organizing an RPG online. I've got plenty of games I wanna play in the future, and I can't seriously expect my friends and reality to cater to this in regular groups easily. It's enough work getting one D&D group together after all! After some time thinking about it, and looking at what I've got I've settled that I'd like to try running World of Darkness: Innocents. Right now it's likely to just be a one or two session game, more likely one. As I've never played or ran a Storyteller game before! So I'll have to ask for my friend's mercy and pity in the matter as I'm likely to make mistakes for a while as anyone can.

We'll be playing online with Gametable as our main interface, though we won't be using as much of it as we could. It provides some minimal stat tracking, a board, minis for it, and a chat area with dice roller. We'll only be using the chat area and dice roller. In the future other games would likely use the board itself; however that doesn't seem really necessary with a Storyteller type game. If the players would like, I wouldn't mind using a voice chat system either. Most likely either Teamspeak or Ventrilo. Gametable is a java app so it'll run on just about any OS. The other two have apps for Windows, Mac, and Linux in one way or another I believe so also pretty covered.

As for books. If you can't get one and wanna play, get up with me and we can probably work something out. Unlike most WoD games, Innocents is a standalone book. It does NOT need the core WoD book. The book isn't too pricey online luckily. $18 for a PDF from DriveThruRPG or $23 from Amazon in dead tree form. I really do think it's a nice read overall if you like horror and the idea of kids coping and (hopefully) overcoming it!

If you're interested just get in touch via IM/message/email/smoke signal. I'd like at least four players for the one shot. If it works out I'd be interested in doing more with the same game in the future though possibly a fresh cast for a different more long term scenario.

Long overdue posting...

Eh, unfortunately twitter's also made me a tad lazier again with this thing. It's hard to make regular posts when you know regular little thoughts are getting put up for you automagically. That being said though, I might as well make a more lengthy post talking about some of the things that have gone on lately.

A couple weekends ago now a group of friends including myself went to Carowinds, and largely had a blast. Dan unfortunately had some trouble with the rides and this lead him sitting out for a good chunk of the fun. I won't lie, that part bugged me quite a bit. I was really hoping he'd be able to enjoy himself just as much as everyone else. Though really it was me and Cassie that seriously hit up the rides. We were the only two to ride the two most intense rollercoasters there. That being said the Cobra is awesome and the Nighthawk has got to be my favorite of all time. The only other real highlights were the heat, and it's side effect. The park was pretty dead. (SHORT lines!) We made it fine though if you didn't keep hydrated you'd sorely regret it and sunburns did occur!

Another amusing thing is that the Mouse Guard RPG won best RPG at Origins 2009, beating out D&D 4e. Majorly impressive. Don't get me wrong, I still love 4e, but Mouse Guard, a largely independent game taking home the crown says a lot about it's quality. I really hope I can organize a game of it soon. Though I am planning to try to organize a game or two online soon. Thinking about doing something with WoD: Innocents finally, though I haven't ran any WoD titles yet so I'm a little apprehensive.

In computing news, my MSI Wind nettop got sent to the living room as a multimedia PC for the big TV. Taking it's place as my primary desktop is this pretty thing. Very similar to the Wind, though sporting an Atom 330 which means 64-bit support and dualcore. Also more room for upgrades from myself. The PCI slot and full 5.25 bay means I get to have a regular optical drive and add my own wireless support. All linux supported of course and now running Arch nicely. Though I must admit it's awkward seeing something that is both dual core and hyperthreaded as it reports itself as having 4 CPUs.

Lastly, more of my family got to meet Dan at the 4th of July cook out yesterday. They seemed to like him alright. He's been kinda moody lately, but I do love him. It's not like he's lacking any reason for it and hopefully he'll start to see the brighter side of things soon. I really enjoy his company and would hate to see it stop. He'd better know that!

  • 09:18 rpgshop.com surprised me by including a giant foam d6 with the order! What will I do with this thing?! #
  • 12:33 @vjwyatt Incidentally Dwarven Forge dice were in this order too. For the exceptionally unruly. ;) #
  • 12:41 @vjwyatt Really nice, hefty. I'd be afraid to use them without padding on a nice table! #
  • 12:58 @vjwyatt Yeah, though padding should work fine. They're not likely to roll out of control at all. #
